Contexte
Alzheimer disease is a major public health issue and the main risk factor is aging. With the world population's aging, its importance will continuously increase. During the next twenty years, the occurrence is expected to double in developed countries and quadruple in emerging countries. Human, social, and economical issues related to the disease are challenging: jointly developing early diagnostic tools and effective preventive and/or curative solutions.
Currently, diagnostic and therapeutic tools are limited faced to this challenge Indeed, pharmaceutical products available on the market are only able to smooth disease symptoms without curbing the ineluctable evolution of the disease. Moreover, well accepted target amyloid beta aggregates seems to give disappointing results thus increasing the necessity of alternative approaches.
Diagnostic tools are also scarce. Detection is only possible at the late stage of the disease when degeneration and symptoms are already well established.
Despite heavy investments, these weaknesses can be explained by the difficulty to clearly understand the physiopathological complexity of the disease. Face to this urgency, AlzProtect develops original and innovative strategies.
Mission
AlzProtect develops an innovative and unique approach of Alzheimer’s disease from the fruitful collaboration Dr. Delacourte and Pr. Melnyk. The company foresees to realize clinical trials of its drug candidate up to phase IIa before transferring it to a pharmaceutical partner that will continue these clinical trials and will market this medicine.
